Phygital Stamp Rallies: How to Run Event Missions You Can Measure

How a phygital stamp rally works, when it beats paper cards, how to design missions, and what you can measure. With the Samsung Galaxy case (29.7k submissions).

A stamp rally is a classic way to get visitors to explore a whole event, not just one booth. The trouble is that paper cards are hard to change, easy to lose and give you no data at all. A phygital stamp rally solves all three by combining a physical stamp with a digital card.

What is a phygital stamp rally?

Phygital means physical plus digital. Visitors still get the physical moment of being stamped, but the stamp is recorded on a digital card on their phone. The flow:

  1. Open the experience: visitors open the card through a link or QR, no app download.
  2. Complete an activity: try a product, join a quiz, take a booth photo or another mission.
  3. Get stamped: staff press a physical stamp onto the marked area of the phone screen.
  4. See progress: the stamp appears on the card and the next mission or reward gets closer.
  5. Data flows in: every stamp is logged in the team's dashboard.

Case study: Samsung Galaxy Experience Zone

SamsungSee the project →

For the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 launch, Samsung ran activations across malls and cities and wanted visitors to try every zone, not just one booth.

The problem: every mall had a different space, layout, number of zones and missions. Paper stamp cards meant a new design, a new print run and reprints for every change.

The solution: a web-based phygital stamp system on the visitor's phone. Each location gets its own link and mission setup to match its booth layout. A dashboard shows who joined, which zones were completed and how many rewards were claimed, and lets Samsung choose the missions per location.

The result: 29.7k submissions, and the system was reused for the Vibe Check activations in Jakarta and Bali.

Three common formats

Booth missions

Visitors complete a few activities around the booth: try a demo, take a photo, answer a quiz. Each stamp ticks off one mission.

Loyalty card

One stamp per purchase or visit, a reward when the card is full. Good for stores, cafés and bazaar tenants.

Event passport

For events with many stations, such as exhibitions or festivals. Visitors check in to a digital passport and collect a stamp at each station on the way to a reward.

How to design missions people actually finish

  • Three to five missions is enough. More than that and completion drops.
  • Make the first mission easy, so people feel progress straight away.
  • Give each mission a reason: try the product, learn one feature, share a moment. Not just "go to point X".
  • Show the reward from the start, and how many steps are left to reach it.
  • Design the stamp for the brand, because the stamp is also a souvenir.
  • Watch which mission people abandon in the dashboard and fix it while the event is still on.

What you can measure

  • Participants per day and per hour
  • Stamps per station, and which stations draw people in
  • Journey completion rate
  • Reward claims and remaining stock
  • Visitors who come back on another day or at another venue

This data answers questions that are usually guesswork: which areas really attract people, and when the booth is busiest.

Magic Stamp: the tool we built for this

From projects like Samsung's, we built Magic Stamp: a branded physical stamp that unlocks the next digital step on the visitor's phone, with a campaign dashboard. The stamp design, colours and rewards can all be matched to the brand. See the demo at magic-stamp.vercel.app or on our Exploration page.

One physical stamp, one digital step unlocked.

Frequently asked questions

What is a phygital stamp rally?

A stamp rally that combines a physical stamp with a digital card. Visitors open the card on their phone through a link or QR, complete an activity at each point, and staff press a physical stamp onto their phone screen. The stamp is logged on the card and in a dashboard straight away.

Do visitors need to download an app?

No. The stamp card runs in the browser through a link or QR, so people can join without installing anything. That matters at events, where every extra step makes people drop out.

How is it better than a paper stamp card?

No reprinting when missions or layouts change, each venue can have its own missions, the card can't be lost, and the team sees participation, completion and reward claims in real time.

What can you measure?

Participants, stamps per station, completion rate, the mission people abandon most, peak hours, reward claims and returning visitors.

Can it be used as a loyalty card in stores?

Yes. The same format works as a loyalty card: one stamp per purchase or visit, with a reward when the card is full. The stamp design and card look can be matched to the brand.
