Redemption Kiosks, Explained

What Is a Redemption Kiosk?

A redemption kiosk is a self-service machine that gives people something after they qualify: a reward after a QR scan, merchandise after a purchase, a prize after a game, or a wristband after buying a ticket. It replaces a staffed counter, keeps the queue moving and records every claim.

Common Types

  • QR reward kiosks: members scan their code and collect a freebie in store, like the redeem kiosk at charging stations for an FMCG brand.
  • Play-to-win machines: a short game decides the prize, like Gelas Keberuntungan, where players find the lucky cup, or The Vault, a code-cracking machine with ~75% participation.
  • Wristband and ticket machines: at FM Reminiscing, a self-service machine redeemed 1.5k wristbands in under 30 seconds each, with half the manpower.

Why Use a Machine Instead of a Counter

Machines don't get tired, don't play favourites, and count everything. A game in front of the reward turns waiting into part of the experience, and rules like limited attempts keep stock under control.

What Drives the Cost

The type of machine and dispenser, custom cabinet design, the game or redemption logic, stock size, the number of machines and event days, connectivity, and on-site crew. We often adapt one machine design across a roadshow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a redemption kiosk?

A self-service machine that gives people a reward, merchandise, a prize or a wristband after they qualify, for example by scanning a QR code, buying something or playing a short game.

Can the machine dispense physical prizes?

Yes. We build dispensers for merchandise, freebies, wristbands and tickets, sized for your items.

How do you stop people from claiming twice?

Each QR code or ticket can be limited to one claim, and the system checks it in real time before dispensing.

Can we add a game before the reward?

Yes. Short games like finding the lucky cup or cracking a code decide the prize and make waiting part of the fun.

Does it need internet?

Live sync to the dashboard needs a connection, but machines can be designed to keep working offline and sync later.

Can we rent machines for one event?

Yes. We build and run machines for single events and for roadshows across several locations.
